Service Project Information

All service project descriptions for Called 2 Follow are listed below.  Service project sign-up is located on the registration form.  Capacity is limited for some service projects, so sign-up is handled on a first come, first served basis.

Meals from the Heartland

  • Packaging food for domestic and international delivery. The first 140 people to sign up will be driven to the work site in West Des Moines, Iowa. Participants will form an assembly line to fill bags with veggies, vitamins, rice and soy, seal the packets, then pack them into boxes for shipment. There will be a short training session to prepare participants for the packaging process.  To learn more, visit www.mealsfromtheheartland.org.
  • This activity is limited to the first 200 participants who sign up.  This project will be done on site at Grand View University.

Riverside Lutheran Bible Camp

  • This Bible camp is one that is a partner with LCMC to provide a Christ-centered experience for people of all ages. Bible camps are always in need of help around the grounds, fixing up cabins, doing yard work and more.  The first 100 people to sign up will take a short 50 minute bus ride to the camp, which is located near Story City, Iowa.  Participants should come ready to work with work clothes, work gloves and tennis shoes.  Be ready to have a great time with Pastor Chris Dahl, an LCMC pastor and the camp's Program Coordinator.  To learn more, visit www.riversidelbc.org.
  • This activity is limited to the first 100 participants who sign up.  Transportation will be provided.

Random Acts of Kindness

  • Youth groups will go out on their own to look for opportunities to serve others. Examples may include collecting shopping carts at a “box store”, helping people to carry groceries to their car, setting up a free car wash, buying someone’s lunch at a restaurant, picking up litter at a local park or roadside, fixing up the yard at a local church, or whatever other ideas you can offer!
  • Transportation is on your own for this activity.
