LCMC Blog [IIMT series] Read the the latest news, announcements and articles from LCMC. en-us Intentional Interim Ministry Workshop Canceled Wed, 01 Apr 20 00:00:00 -0600 The LCMC Intentional Interim Ministry Workshop originally scheduled for July 6-9, 2020 at Grand View University has been canceled.

"There was a sense that people will be reticent to register and no one is sure at this point whether safe distancing will be at an end by July.  We also canceled the LCMC youth event which had been planned for later July," said Perry Fruhling, LCMC's coordinator for pastoral ministry.

While the importance of social distancing during this time is being taken seriously, the need for intentional interim ministry training among our pastors has not gone away.

"There had been a number of inquiries, so there is still interest in this important training." Fruhling said.

Intentional Interim Ministry Training Returns for 2020 Mon, 24 Feb 20 00:00:00 -0700 A change of pastors is a significant and sometimes traumatic event in the life of the church and congregation.

The need has never been greater for trained intentional interim ministers who are called and equipped to assist congregations during times of change and transition.

Intentional interim ministry is not just filling a void during a pastoral vacancy, but focusing on developmental tasks of the congregation and process tasks for the intentional interim pastor.  It is vital for intentional interim ministers to discover an increased awareness of self as part of a system in order to equip a congregation to define their present reality and to plan for their future.

A basic course on intentional interim ministry will be offered July 6-9, 2020 at Grand View University in Des Moines, IA.  It is for anyone who is new to interim ministry and has not yet received intentional interim ministry training through LCMC.

To register for the basic course, contact Cathy Nichol, LCMC Administrative Coordinator at or call (734) 788-7476.

The cost for the training course is $275.  Housing is available through Grand View University.

We ask that those enrolled bring a serious commitment to learning and conscientious determination to healthy practice of intentional interim ministry.

The basic course is not intended to be exhaustive, but the first introductory step in a continuous learning process.

LCMC is committed to providing continuing education for those who have taken the basic course.  Future classes are being planned and will be announced at a later date.

LCMC to Offer Basic and Advanced Intentional Interim Ministry Training Mon, 28 Jan 19 00:00:00 -0700 LCMC is constantly encountering congregations and pastors in transition.  With so many baby boomer pastors retiring in the next few years, the need for trained, intentional interim pastors has never been greater.

Interested in Serving in an Interim Ministry Role? Tue, 29 May 18 00:00:00 -0600 If you are a pastor who is interested in serving in an interim ministry role during the next year, and have not yet received LCMC training, there are still a few spots open at this year’s LCMC Intentional Interim Ministry Training event.

More and more we are discovering the vital role that interim ministry plays in helping a congregation transition from one ministry to another. There are a certain set of skills and necessary training for these transitions to go well.  As you develop in this vital area of ministry, the kingdom of Christ is realized in the congregation you serve.

The event takes place July 10-12 at Grand View University in Des Moines, IA.  To register, please contact Cathy Nichol, LCMC Administrative Coordinator at or (734) 788-7476.

May God use this ministry training to strengthen the witness of LCMC in the years to come!

LCMC to Offer Interim Ministry Training Tue, 27 Dec 16 00:00:00 -0700 LCMC, along with many other church bodies, is constantly encountering congregations and pastors in transition.  I’ve been dealing with many of these congregations during my tenure as Coordinator for Pastoral Ministry and seeing first-hand the challenges they face, the perils and pitfalls that often befall them, and the great promise that awaits them if and when they successfully move through a period of transition!  With so many Baby Boomer pastors retiring in the next few years, the need for trained interim pastors has never been greater.  I enrolled in the extensive training offered by Interim Ministry Network (IMN), which I recently completed.

Because of the need I’ve observed and the training I’ve received, I am offering a crash course in interim ministry for interested LCMC pastors, which will take place July 25-27, 2017 at Grand View University in Des Moines, Iowa.

To register for the course, contact Cathy Nichol, LCMC Administrative Coordinator, at (734) 788-7476 or  The cost of the course is $100 per person (payable via credit card or by check made payable to LCMC) and enrollment is limited to twenty-five people.  Advance registration and full payment are required before class begins .

Travel, meals and housing are the responsibility of each participant.  Housing is available at Grand View for $27 per night, and reservations can be made directly with Grand View by contacting Nicholas Kavanaugh at or (515) 263-2894.

Pastor Steve Abend, an LCMC pastor who has been trained by the National Association of Lutheran Interim Pastors (NALIP) will be joining me in teaching the class.  The class will also include the pre-reading of several books identified in our syllabus after registration.

My hope is that those who enroll will be motivated and conscientious learners willing to serve as intentional interim ministers in LCMC congregations.

If you are interested in attending, please register by contacting Cathy Nichol.  In addition, please share this information among your friends who you think might be interested.

I welcome your questions and ask for your prayers.

Yours for the sake of the Kingdom,

Rev. Stephen Lien
Coordinator for Pastoral Ministry
Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ (LCMC)
