LCMC to Host Conflict Coaches Training Event
Conflict is a normal part of our everyday lives. We experience conflict in our relationships at home, places of work, community, and yes, even in our churches.
As many as 40% of our congregations will experience conflict to the point of disrupting mission!
During the past year, Rev. Perry Fruhling, Coordinator for Pastoral Ministry for LCMC, has been conducting Conflict Resolution Workshops around the country.
The desire now is to take this training to the next level as we train coaches for various regions of the country.
There will be a Conflict Coaches Training Event held at Hosanna! Lutheran Church in St. Charles, IL (near to O’Hare Airport), March 30 - April 1, 2020.
The event will include training on the following:
- Basic information about anxiety in congregations – learning to identify the source of anxiety and management of it
- The process of conflict resolution – with hands on exercises
- Family Systems and congregational conflict
- Protocol for listening and discernment in congregational conflict
- Assessment and working with leadership on a plan for conflict resolution
- Reconciliation, restoration and healing in the congregation
- Referral and steps for long-term care
Registration for the event is $50, which includes materials, lunch on Tuesday and Wednesday, and other presentation costs.
This LCMC event is open to LCMC pastors and lay leaders. Attendance at one of the Conflict Workshops or having other background in conflict resolution would be beneficial but is not required.

Perry Fruhling is a family man, a Cubs fan, rarely tan (burns easily), and recently began (running out of rhymes here!) his work with LCMC as Coordinator for Pastoral Ministry. He loves meeting people and is enjoying getting to know LCMC pastors, leaders, and congregation members in the call process and working with seminarians and pastors in the certification process. He also hopes to partner with churches and leaders around conflict resolution. He enjoys humor and the old cartoon series Scooby Doo where something has gone awry in the world and it’s up to “those meddling kids” to solve the mystery. Although Perry loves a bumper sticker he once saw, “What Would Scooby Doo?”, Perry believes it’s all about what we as God’s people do together through the Holy Spirit’s power to strengthen our churches for witness in the kingdom of Christ. Jinkies, I guess we’re off to solve another mystery. Like, wow!
