    Position Title: Pastor

    Position Type: Full time

We at Christ Lutheran Church are starting our call process for a new pastor.  We have been located in Odessa since 1901.  Our roots are the German Russian immigrants who settled in this area around the turn of the century and into the first years of the 1900's.  Our current building was constructed in 1958.  Odessa is a farming community of just under 1,000 people.  Farmers here grow wheat, potatoes, hay, grass and various other vegetable crops.  There are also a number of cattle ranchers in the area.  Currently our membership includes those tied to agriculture and a diverse mix of people who work at our local school, hospital and other local businesses.  Our current membership is 379 with the average Sunday church attendance being 71.  We seek to be a fellowship of Christian believers who welcome all people with joy and the peace that enlightens us all in the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Crab Creek is our group of musical members, singing hymns, current Christian songs and gospel.  We have a great Sunday School program for ages pre-school-adult, Bible study groups, an active Women's group, quilters, confirmation students, a great church council, and various groups who meet using our building from a weight-loss group to hosting a community Christmas dinner, occasional Movie nights, a Grief Share group, hosting the viewing of our local High School championship Football game and State Basketball games; or whatever the appropriate need may be for use of our building.

Next  door to our church building is the church parsonage.  A spacious, beautiful brick home with a two car garage, full basement, fireplaces, and a front and back yard with sprinkler system.

The Odessa School District is an award winning school who cares about their students.  Our community is very supportive of our school and local hospital.  We are a class 1B school in size.  Our hospital is a 25 bed, Critical Access hospital; having access to "Life Flight".

Odessa is a warm, loving community with a small-town atmosphere.  Each year, the third weekend of September, we host our community celebration of "Deutschesfest".  This year will be our 50 year celebration!  In early April, Desert 100, a stump jumper motorcycle event is hosted; the largest of its kind in the Northwest.  Odessa is a safe and wonderful place to raise a family.

In addition to our school and hospital is Quail Court assisted living, Odessa Clinic, drug store and pharmacy, dentist, chiropractor, a physical therapy department, city park and swimming center, nine hole golf course and club house, grocery store, coffee shop, restaurant, two banks, beauty salon, fire department, police department, Lions Club, Chamber of Commerce, community center, and refurbished Old Town Hall. Nearby access to fishing and hunting, a gun--club, city library, five local churches along with the Odessa Community Ministerial Association of local Pastors who work together for the good of the community; sponsoring the Odessa Food Bank, Community Vacation Bible School, sing-a-longs throughout the year and assisting those in need are just a part of their ministry.

Odessa is near the larger cities of Spokane and Moses Lake, WA.

With God's help and blessings of His Holy Spirit, we strive to be a mission outreaching congregation.  We encourage all of our members and friends of the congregation to live the gospel in word and deed.  We pray that you might do the same in your place of life and worship.

We are looking for a Pastor to focus on building our congregation not only spiritually to current members, but also outreach, with an evangelistic feeling to our community.

    We want our Pastor to:

Preach and teach the Word of God

Lead weekly Sunday worship as well as special worship services

    Coordinate with church committees

Minister to the shut-ins, hospitalized and those in assisted living

    Lead in the confirmation process

    Be involved with youth programs

    We expect our Pastor to:

Be a Christian role model for our community

Have an active involvement in the Odessa Community Ministerial Association

Be outgoing and dedicated to the congregation and church council

Allow lay people to step up to help the Pastor, filling in and as siting as needed

Our hearts and minds are open to see what God has in store for us.
