    American Lutheran Church in Long Prairie, MN has been blessed to have been served by our current pastor for the past 15 years. We have a Call Committee in place and are beginning the formal call process for a new pastor.


    At American Lutheran Church, we are led by the Holy Spirit and strengthened by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We seek to make the Kingdom of God real and present in our world through ongoing worship, witness, and service. American Lutheran Church has had a ministry presence in Long Prairie since 1932 with the current church built in 1959. We have 425 baptized members and are an “aging” congregation. In an effort to keep our church active, we are launching a “growing young” campaign! Our congregation is involved in multiple ministry outreach projects including:

    • Live radio broadcast of our worship service each Sunday on 1400AM KEYL
    • Live-streaming of our Sunday worship service on Facebook
    • Meals, Mugs, and Mittens (free Christmas Day meal provided at the church and delivered to the jail and homes; winter hats and mittens also provided)
    • Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes & Baby Care Kits
    • Youth mission trips and projects

    Life in the Community: Long Prairie (population 3,458), the county seat for Todd County, is named after the river flowing through the city. Located in central Minnesota and bordered on the south by beautiful Lake Charlotte, Long Prairie is proud of its new hospital and wellness center, highly rated school system, and excellent 18-hole golf course. With a variety of industrial opportunities, Long Prairie is an ethnically and culturally diverse place, with a strong Hispanic presence. 


    Long Prairie is conveniently located at three major highways: U.S. Highway 71, State Highway 27 and State Highway 287. This ideal location offers the charm of small town life with a quick commute to larger communities including, St. Cloud (57 miles), Alexandria (30 miles), and Brainerd (55 miles).


    Job Description: Our congregation is looking for a pastor guided by God’s Word to provide spiritual leadership to our members and help us spread the Gospel. This includes supervising the overall ministry (along side our lay Youth and Family Minister/Music Coordinator), and supporting our effort to “grow young.” We value a team approach where the pastor encourages and enables members to discover their ministry and who walks with us in mutual service.


    Primary Responsibilities:

    • Preaching
      • High priority is given to preaching in a solid bible-based manner to meet the needs of the congregation and attract new members.
    • Leading Worship
      • Plan and lead worship services in conjunction with the Youth and Family Minister/Music Coordinator
      • Create a weekly bulletin, in conjunction with the secretary, for worship services
    • Administration
      • Oversee church staff (secretary and Youth and Family Minister/Music Coordinator) and conduct weekly staff meetings
      • Facilitate ongoing and open communication between church staff, committees, and the congregation
      • Oversee the daily operations of the church to ensure worship services, ministries, and committees continue to run seamlessly 
      • Provide support and oversee church committees and boards led by lay members, including attending monthly church council meetings
      • Maintain communication with the missions supported by American Lutheran Church
    • Teaching
      • Lead the weekly adult bible class
      • Teach confirmation classes
      • Provide support to and work in conjunction with the Sunday School Board of Education
      • Assist in teaching and organizing Vacation Bible School
    • Counseling 
      • Provided to church members as needed
      • Conduct pre-marriage counseling
    • Visitation
      • Call on members who are sick, in the hospital, or home bound
    • Evangelism
      • Lead the Sunday worship service broadcast on 1400AM KEYL radio and live-streamed on Facebook
      • Participate in community outreach

    • A strong passion to lead the church to “grow young” in membership

    • Applies the truth of the Bible to life through preaching and daily interactions

    • Strong organizational skills to efficiently complete administrative tasks, while making time for people 
    • Approachable to all ages and available to members of the church when needed
    • Solid communication skills in both group and individual settings
    • Financial knowledge to help the church maintain a balanced budget


    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Master of Divinity degree from a certified seminary
    • LCMC Certified
