St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church is seeking a pastor to replace our minister who retired after 17½ years of service. Our church has had many sons of our congregation enter the ministry. It is our privilege to have one of these sons of St. Matthew’s and an active member serving as our full-time Interim Pastor. St. Matthew’s has a Call Committee in place and we are beginning the process of seeking a new pastor.
Our mission as the body of Christ is to support our people and neighbors through our church, and to equip and affirm the priesthood of all believers in our congregation and throughout the world.
St. Matthew’s has had a presence in Salisbury, NC for 183 years. We have 530 active members and the pre-COVID average weekly attendance was 250. Currently, we are averaging 100 to 125 in attendance and many more through our virtual broadcast on YouTube and recorded services on DVD’s. Our facilities include a well-maintained historic church, Fellowship Building, Education Building, Family Life Center, and a parsonage. Our parsonage is located on site and has been well-maintained and has served our Pastors and their families through the years. It has been regularly updated and is available for our Pastor to use.
Our congregation is involved in multiple ministry outreach projects including Meals on Wheels, Rowan Helping Ministry (local food bank), gift bags to shut-ins, Trunk or Treat, Sharing Shepherds (families adopted in West Virginia for Christmas), One Church One Child, Habitat for Humanity, youth mission trips to depressed areas, support for needy children at our local elementary school, Operation Christmas Child, Community 5K Walk/Run, and American Red Cross Blood Drives. St. Matthew’s has an active Men’s Group, Ladies’ Groups, Junior and Senior Youth Groups, Senior Citizens Group, Via de Cristo reunion groups, and a Boy Scout Troop. We also have an active Vacation Bible School, Children’s Church, and Sunday School classes for all ages. We offer an informal summer Worship Service called “Camper Service” for our members and the community. Camper Service was started in the early 70’s as an outreach to visitors to High Rock Lake. It was held in our Fellowship Hall, at a local campground, and other convenient sites. The services are led by our youth, members of the church, and volunteers with the Pastor and lay members providing the meditation.
St. Matthew’s is located 9 miles from Salisbury, NC near the banks of High Rock Lake. Salisbury is nestled in the heart of North Carolina’s Piedmont region. We are midway between the NC mountains and beaches. There are numerous local attractions including Dan Nicholas Park, the NC Transportation Museum, and historic Gold Hill, NC. Salisbury is conveniently located halfway between Charlotte and Greensboro on the I-85 corridor.
St. Matthew’s is looking for an experienced minister to pastor our flock into the future. We would prefer a certified Pastor with a degree from an accredited seminary. We look forward to exploring new and exciting ministry possibilities through God’s grace as we serve our Lord.
If interested, please reach out to our Call Committee chairman, Tim Agner, at 704-906-6037 and submit your resume to email@example.com.
