    ILLINOIS: St. John’s Lutheran Church, Creston: av. att.20; 125-year-old Norwegian heritage church; communion 1st Sunday of the month with a traditional style worship service using LBW. Our mission statement is: God’s Family, Planting Hope, Nurturing Faith, and Harvesting Love. 

    St. John’s is a member congregation of both LCMC and NALC.  We are a small congregation of 20 active members.  St. John’s is currently looking for a Pastor on a permanent part-time basis, but willing to consider yoking with another congregation in hopes of calling a pastor to meet our needs in serving us both.  Our previous pastor farmed and served us as a ¼ time minister, which met our needs at that time.  We are searching for a Pastor who is has excellent leadership skills; preaches the good news as the Bible reads, is a good listener to all; and is eager to bring in new members.  Ministry expectations would include leading worship; visiting our shut-ins; funerals; marriages; confirmation teaching when needed (we have 6 children grade school and younger at the present time); one who is able to inspire and effectively communicate with all ages and neighbors in Christ, and is good in guiding us in outreach; will attend community functions that the church is involved in.  A parsonage is available if needed.

     Activities of our church are: annual Norwegian kumla supper, ice cream social and talent show. Our ladies assemble quilts and deliver to Lutheran World Relief.  In 2020 the church met in the park (because of covid-19) for our worship service. Each of us brought our own chairs and wore masks.  We really enjoyed worship with all God’s sounds and beauty.  By doing so it also brought in a few people from the community. 

    St. John’s Lutheran Church is located in Creston, IL.  We are approximately 60 miles directly west of Chicago and 15 miles west of DeKalb, which is the home of Northern Illinois University. We are five miles west of Kishwaukee Community College. Our main shopping & hospital is in Rochelle just 5 miles west of us.  Creston is a nice little town in a farming community. It has its own grade school, K-8. Grades 9-12 attend Rochelle Township High School. Creston also has a Methodist Church and a Baptist Church. There is a well-known meat market called Headon’s Fine Meats; a public library; a record shop; a small store called Mark’s stuff which has homemade items and other gifts; Roadhouse Antique Store; Casey’s gas station; car wash; 3 grain elevators, and a fairly new beverage/restaurant; fire barn with volunteer firemen; and a community building called the Opera House. The building has been designed for many purposes.   The Creston Booster Club is an organization to help the community.   Now that covid-19 has calmed down we have restarted the Sr. Connection with the main objective of getting the seniors of the community together.  All of the above takes place in our town of Creston, population approximately 700.

    We are praying for God to send us a Pastor to lead us in the very near future.
