    We are a caring congregation of the North American Lutheran Church (NALC) and Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ (LCMC). We have a solid history in this community of Biblically-based preaching and teaching, nourishing worship, and warm fellowship.

    Position: Music Director

    Accountable to: Lead Pastor

    Purpose:

    Create dynamic worship experiences on Sunday mornings, or other relevant church holidays and other services as needed to meet the needs of the congregation.  Develop community partnerships through music and discipleship.

     

    Primary Responsibilities:

    Direct liturgical and contemporary worship celebrations

    Lead and oversee a concert series, special seasonal services, and the audio, visual, and creative arts components of worship

    Manage the children and youth components of the music ministries

    Recruit, train and mentor participants for the music programs

    Lead and direct choir and praise band for special events/worship experiences

    Develop community relationships through attractional events designed to take Saint James Lutheran into the community

    Live a Life dedicated to Christ both “on and off” the clock

    Oversee maintenance of musical instruments

    Maintain appropriate list of substitutes

    Arrange for special music presentations as budget allows

    All other duties as assigned

     

     

    Qualifications:

    Must be available Sunday mornings and additional hours throughout the week for a minimum of 20 hours

    Profess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior

    Commit to personal spiritual growth and healthy lifestyle

    Consider this position a ministry, not just a job

    Model standards and expectations of staff members within Saint James Lutheran Church including worship attendance and involvement in church life at Saint James Lutheran Church, small group/bible study participation, lifestyle of generosity, and faithfully serving out of your call and giftedness

    Adhere to the doctrinal, social, and moral standards of LCMC and NALC

    Proven experience leading the music portion of worship that flows from a genuine relationship with Jesus; including both vocal and instrumental skills

    Proven singer/musician with the ability to lead from piano/keys, and ability to play the organ is highly desirable

    Proven experience leading a choir

    Proven  leadership skills and development of teams and cultivating new talent

    Ability and willingness to grasp the vision of Saint James Lutheran Church and to learn the distinct DNA and flow of the ministry

    Understanding of contextual ministry/mission/culture

    Ability to hear vocal parts and to teach these to the music servants

    Ability to instruct in the area of sound and to assist in developing this area and working within the budget parameters

    Demonstrated knowledge of sacred traditional and contemporary music repertoire and the liturgical year

    Technological Savviness a Plus!

    Willingness to learn Worship Presentation Software

    Understanding of Lutheran worship traditions and liturgy desirable

     

    Additional Information:

    Salary paid semi-monthly

    Honoraria from members and non-members for funerals and weddings

    Workweek flexibility for continuing education including seminary, ministerial studies, and music education.
