    LIVING WORD LUTHERAN CHURCH

    WE ARE:

    • An active congregation formed in 2010, that believes the Bible is God’s Word as inspired by Him, is infallible and fully inerrant in its original manuscripts and superior to all human authority. We do not shape God’s Word; God’s Word shapes us. God’s Word has never failed man. It is a perfect road map that leads to eternal life with God, through Jesus, the Word made flesh.
    • Membership of 294 and weekly attendance averaging approximately 135 members.
    • New building constructed in 2014, debt free in 2018.
    • A congregation that feels strongly about outreach ministries, supporting ministries locally and worldwide.
    • Located in Milbank, South Dakota, with a population of 3,544 people. Milbank is located approximately 2 hours north of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, 2 hours south of Fargo, North Dakota and 3 ½ hours west of Minneapolis, Minnesota. Milbank is a progressive community that has an excellent school district and healthcare complex. Surrounded by farmland, Milbank is 10 miles from Big Stone Lake known for its walleye and perch fishing. Milbank has a family recreation center, parks, walking trails, lighted tennis courts, golf course, soccer fields, baseball complex, groomed snowmobile trails, and a trap range. Our industrial base is wide and varied with a hardware warehouse, two large cheese factories, a granite quarry, bio-refining ethanol plant, and an electrical power plant.

    PREFERRED EDUCATION:

    Master of Divinity Degree from an accredited Lutheran seminary and LCMC certified (or willing to obtain certification)

    PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

    5 or more years serving as a pastor in a Lutheran congregation

    JOB DESCRIPTION:

    We are seeking a Pastor who:

    • Genuinely loves God and loves people
    • Will work as a team member to further the mission of Living Word Lutheran Church, which is to uphold the Bible as God's inerrant and holy Word, to grow in our faith and knowledge of that Word, and to be faithful witnesses who boldly proclaim its message of forgiveness of sins and salvation in Christ to others in our community and in the world
    • Will help us become a grace-filled community of believers whose lives exemplify an unfaltering faith in God and an obedience to his Word along with a loving concern for others
    • Stays true to the Word, including biblical-based teaching and preaching
    • Possesses the ability to preach the Word and teach how the Gospel applies to our lives today and in the future
    • Displays strong leadership skills, having a similar vision as our church
    • Possesses the ability to lead Spirit-filled worship services that develop, grow and cultivate our faith
    • Enjoys social interaction and is willing to disciple others, taking an interest in our congregational members and our communities

    In addition to normal pastoral duties the pastor shall:

    • Encourage people to participate in the ministry of the gospel
    • Regularly pray for the congregation and its ministry
    • Explore ways to bring members into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ
    • Oversee all Christian education programs (Confirmation, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Adult Bible Studies)
    • Oversee visits to home shut-ins and to those in hospitals and nursing homes
    • Be available to members for counseling
    • Hold staff meetings, at least monthly, to outline goals and objectives for self and staff
    • Participate in local ministerial association and be visible in the community

    COMPENSATION:

    Annual salary and benefits up to $120,000, based on experience. Actual salary will be set in the call letter. Travel stipend is available. A pass to Milbank High School extra-curricular activities will be provided. LWLC does not have a parsonage, but will work with pastoral candidate on identifying that portion of compensation related to a housing allowance.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Direct supervisor to Church Secretary, Associate Pastor (if applicable), and any other paid LWLC staff (if applicable).

    OTHER INFORMATION:

    An Interim pastor is in place.
