- Position Type: Full Time
- Description:
We are a Spirit-led, close-knit congregation of very active members who embrace this new season of change that we’re in. We are ready for transformation and are looking for a leader to help us build as the Lord directs us. We are a body of believers who emphasize scripture-based sermons and the power of prayer. Our mission statement is “Empowered by the Holy Spirit, we are a loving community that follows Jesus and seeks God’s will in all we do.” We have faith, love and hope and rely on the Holy Spirit, scripture and prayers to guide us. We are a group of believers who know that we are saved by God’s grace through the blood of Jesus Christ; not by anything we have done or deserve. We come together to worship and thank God for this wonderful gift of salvation.
LJLC belongs to God and we endeavor to be good stewards of this congregation, this community and all the nations. As a relatively small church, we want to grow and expand opportunities to share the Good News about our Lord and Savior. We are encouraged and know that we are blessed.
About the Pastor Position:
LJLC is seeking an experienced, ordained LCMC minister to be our full-time pastor in fulfilling the characteristic duties and responsibilities of a pastor. We envision a faithful leader who excels in preaching the Gospel, administering the Sacraments and ministering to the congregation and community. Our desire is to have a leader who helps us grow in our faith, strengthen our relationship with God, be grateful in all circumstances, be mindful of our numerous blessings and freely share them with others.
We pray for a pastor who is gifted in Evangelism, growing a church and expanding resources in order to spread the Gospel. We value families. We want to reach families with children and invest in and support them.
Most importantly, we desire someone who feels called to our church. We are excited to learn, in the fullness of time, who the Lord is sending to lead our LJLC family. We put our trust in God. We see the favor He continues bestowing on our church.
Who We Are (based on recent congregational assessment):
Jesus-seeking
Attend regularly
Warm and welcoming congregation
Work well together as a congregation
Tithing (both attenders and the church)
Pray for one another and anyone who asks
Support missions and international Bible distribution
Additional Details:
LJLC, established in 1945, is located in the San Diego community of La Jolla and our church building is three blocks from the beach. The beautiful Spanish-style stucco church - with stained-glass windows and doors - and adjacent parking lot are fully paid for. Our facility is large enough that we’ve invited New Life Presbyterian Church to use our church and we offer space to community groups.
Staffing is one full-time pastor, one part-time administrative assistant, one part-time music director, as well as contracted lawn care and contracted janitorial care. Currently we have a part-time intentional interim pastor. A generous bequest allows us to operate while we seek to expand in membership and sustainability.
We have one Sunday morning service, in the sanctuary and live streaming, that combines traditional and contemporary elements of worship. Lay people lead Sunday school, Bible study and daily evening prayers online. Since the pandemic, the number of attenders has decreased and the average age has trended upward. We envision a future that includes more families with children joining and more people from the surrounding communities attending.
