    REPORTS TO:       God, Lead Pastor, Congregation and Council

    POSITION PURPOSE:  Consistent with Resurrection Lutheran Church, its Council and its constitution, the Director shall effectively lead a ministry designed to mature young people in faith, concurrently equipping families to play a vital role in that maturing process


    1. To continually nurture your personal relationship with Jesus Christ, and the spiritual development of those attending and serving in Youth & Family ministries
    2. Excellent leadership for implementing the vision, purpose and Strategic Ministry Plan of Resurrection Lutheran Church as related to Youth & Family Ministry
    3. Effectively designing an integrated ministry to mature young people in faith while concurrently equipping families as mentors and encouragers
    4. Creating healthy ministries by selecting, developing, mentoring, coaching and leading volunteers in providing clear direction and holding them accountable to their identified goals
    1. Creating, implementing and facilitating faith nurturing curriculum and activities for ages 11 – 15
    2. College degree preferred
    3. Completed formal theological education
    4. Organized and able to manage multiple projects and multiple people
    5. Relates well to all kinds of people, builds effective relationships, and communicates effectively both interpersonally and corporately
    6. Effective speaker and communicator
    7. Ability to play Guitar or Piano is a plus



    1. Areas of Primary Responsibility encompass Youth:  6th grade through 9th grade and their families:
      1. The full spectrum includes Cross Training (confirmation) curriculum development, leader training and administration
      2. 6th-8th grade events and retreats
      3. 9th-12th grade events and retreats (coordinating leadership with RLC High School Ministry Director)
      4. 6th-12th grade Summer Camp and Mission Trips, including the spring Gala fundraising event
      5. Family/Intergenerational events, classes, and workshops
      6. Must be flexible to meet with team to accommodate their schedules (i.e. expect evening meetings)
    2. Primary responsibility to ensure programs offered comply with RLC’s Creating Sanctuary policy.  Responsible for maintaining curriculum and training lay volunteers as necessary
    3. Primary responsibility for the administration and supervision of lay leaders and paid staff assigned to you by the Lead Pastor: 
      1. Lead recruiting, motivating, and mentoring of team members
      2. Provide training to equip lay leaders to support the development and implementation of associated programs
    4. To actively support, both publicly and privately, the vision and strategic plan of RLC, and to aid in its development
      1. Provide leadership for annual visioning and planning process for ministry areas of responsibility
      2. To develop and grow Youth and Family Ministry, including leadership, development, and maintenance of a growing lay leadership team to provide for quality age appropriate programming that:
        1. Provides opportunities to know and experience Jesus and His Word
          1. Vibrant Worship, including the sacraments
          2. Engaged Small Group teaching
          3. Service beyond our walls
        2. Helps young people understand their call to be a light to the world – empowering them to apply what they learn into their daily life
        3. Encourages obedience to the Great Commission by providing opportunities to serve others through mission and service projects
        4. Provides a fun, friendly, nurturing environment for youth in 6th grade through 9th grade
        5. Provides opportunities to strengthen communication and relationships within families
      3. Participate in staff leadership to drive intentional Intergenerational Ministry programs in spiritual growth, fellowship, and relationships
      4. Interaction with children and parents enrolled in Pathfinders to create a seamless transition into Cross Training
      5. Participate as is appropriate in activities and events scheduled in areas of assigned responsibility and in the broader ministry of RLC

    Other Duties

    1. Participate and share leadership in providing for annual program and budget planning
    2. Participate in creation of annual development plan to include annual ministry and personal development objectives in consultation with Lead Pastor
    3. Participate in church conferences, conventions, retreats, and theological educational opportunities as approved by the Lead Pastor
    4. Consult with Lead Pastor before assuming leadership or responsibilities in the community, conference, or church-wide organizations
    5. Participate in ministry to the community through such venues as nursing home visits, service projects, and other appropriate ministries
    6. Provide information to the Communications Coordinator in a timely fashion for all aspects of publication (Announcements, Registrations, Webpage, Facebook, etc)
    7. Prepare for and attend ministry area director meetings and staff meetings
    8. Prepare for and attend council meetings and congregational meetings as requested by the Lead Pastor
    9. Accept other duties as assigned
