    Trinity Lutheran Church, LCMC, Carrington, ND

    Ministry description: The Pastor shall provide spiritual and pastoral direction to the overall ministry and mission of Trinity Lutheran Church, Carrington, North Dakota.  The Pastor will have primary responsibility for leading and coordinating the congregation’s worship, education, and ministry programs.   The Pastor will participate in the planning, organizing, coordinating and evaluation of all programs of the church. The Pastor will lead and coordinate the church staff.

    Supervision: The Pastor serves under the supervision of the Church Council and the Executive Committee.

    Responsibilities and Activities: Subject to review in working with the Church Council, the following constitute the major responsibilities of the Pastor.

    1. WORSHIP
      1. Regularly and faithfully preach and teach the Word of God and administer the Sacraments to the congregation.
      2. Plan and lead worship that reflects the glory of God and the truth of Jesus Christ in cooperation with the organist, musician committee and lay participants.
      3. Officiate at special services including weddings, funerals, nursing home services, Lenten services and other special occasions.
      4. Encourage the sharing of music by all people of all ages for the sake of enhancing the worship experience.
    2. EDUCATION
      1. To teach Confirmation in cooperation with the Board of Education, as well as supervise Guides for the Confirmation program.
      2. In cooperation with the Board of Education, to provide opportunities for the high school youth of our church (New Life Group) to regularly meet, serve, learn and enjoy God’s love in fellowship, service activities, fundraising and trips. 
      3. In cooperation with parent leadership and the Board of Education, to provide opportunities for the middle school youth of our church to regularly meet, serve, learn, and enjoy God’s love in fellowship, service activities, fundraising, and trips. 
      4. To direct Adult Christian Education through Bible studies, special series and educational forums or workshops, and leadership of TLCW Bible Study leaders.
    3. ADMINISTRATION
      1. Oversee the administration and management of all areas of the congregations ministry in consultation with the Church Council and appropriate Boards, committees and staff.
      2. Supervise and collaborate with the Parish Nurse in the carrying out of our ministry.
      3. Be available for counsel and coordination with Council Boards and committees and to participate in an advisory capacity in the regular meetings of the following:

        • Music Committee
        • TLCW Board
        • Nominating Committee
      4. Provide leadership and guidance in a positive work environment for all professionals and staff.
    4. GENERAL PASTORAL RESPONSIBILITIES
      1. Provide pastoral care for all members and others in need through visitation, counseling and prayer.  This is a ministry of all Christians but Pastors are called to lead in this regard and set an example for others.
      2. Make appropriate referrals when necessary and quickly report crisis situations which arise in the congregation and community as appropriate to conscience with respect to privacy and civic laws.
      3. Represent Trinity Lutheran Church in the community of Carrington and beyond, including the larger church, by participating in community affairs and volunteering to serve as time and opportunity permits with priority to the Trinity congregation.
      4. Participate in the assimilation of new members into the life of the congregation in conjunction with the Council and organizations of the congregation.
      5. Encourage all organizations and ministries of the church to carry out their work in the name of Christ.  Invite all to participate in the mission of the Church so that Trinity members, the greater community and the whole world may come to Christ.
      6. In collaboration with the Church Council, promote congregational benevolence and mission support. Ensure there is an awareness of needs within the congregation. 

    WORKING CONDITIONS: The Pastor should be available to the congregation with the understanding that there is a need for flexibility in hours based on circumstances that arise.  Visits and calls may include evenings and weekends, with intense schedules possible.  Office presence is essential as well for accessibility by members of the congregation and for regular communication with church staff. The position of Pastor requires confidentiality of all shared personal information.

    Ministry practices, structure and the future of Trinity Lutheran.

    • Ministry:  Our service ministries are listed in our mission outreach under congregational information.  In addition to these ministries, we as a congregation support and facilitate within our community: blood drives, Advent and Easter concerts, Thanksgiving worship service and dinner, community VBS, Carrington’s Daily Bread (local food bank), Faith in Action’s Syttende Mai Dinner. 
    • Staffing:  We employ one full-time pastor and a part-time staff including a secretary, custodian, parish nurse and two organist/pianist.  We rely heavily on volunteers in our church.  Following is a list of volunteer positions: B.L.A.S.T. guides, church council members, choir director, membership-wide faith in service groups (communion assistants, altar set-up, lay readers, ushers, Sunday morning coffee servers), TLCW officers, Bible study leaders, library committee, education committee, archive committee, music committee, confirmation guides, youth ministry leaders and various other weekly tasks. 
    • Purpose statement:  Our Church is a body of people created by God in Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit, called and sent to bear witness to God’s creative, redeeming, and sanctifying activity in the world. We are committed to focusing on our youth, sustaining and growing our congregation and creating meaningful worship that encourages personal spiritual growth in daily living.
    • Stewardship/Budget:  The church’s trustees prepare an annual budget.  Pledges are sometimes sought from members when there is a particular need.  Fundraisers are well attended and provide additional monetary support for specific projects.  *Annual Reports are available upon request.
    • Congregational strengths: Diligent stewardship, volunteerism, community outreach and ministry, counseling for both members/community, open-door policy for funerals/weddings/baptisms, visitation.
    • Congregational needs:  Youth participation and involvement, increase church attendance, provide traditional worship and contemporary worship services, visitation, guidance and training for volunteering, counseling, opportunities for youth and young adults, redevelopment of music and choir opportunities, offering education and leadership to pastoral staff.  Our expectation is to bring young and old together in worship to passionately encourage a life of faith in order to create a strong church family to rely on and unite in worship.
