St. John Lutheran is Christ-Centered, Bible-Based, Family-Focused and Mission-Minded. We are seeking a confessional Lutheran pastor who will strengthen and encourage these values in preaching , teaching, fellowship, and visitation.

Sterling, Nebraska is a rural community of around 470, surrounded by other rural communities from which we draw many of our members. We are located in Southeastern Nebraska, about 30 miles from Lincoln and about 70 miles to Omaha. Many members commute to work in either Lincoln, Beatrice or Omaha. Sterling’s school is the backbone of the community, providing education from preschool through high school, all within walking distance within the community.

St. John is a charter member of LCMC, and an active member of the Heartland District. The average Sunday attendance is 125 to 135. In many respects St. John is a typical rural congregation with strong, conservative values, deep family ties and a love of tradition. Our worship services are blended, taking advantage of the Lutheran Book of Worship, With One Voice, and The Other Song Book hymnals. The sanctuary, built in 1930, provides a beautiful, classic, worship environment. The facility is handicapped accessible. The congregation has no debt. Housing and utilities are provided.

St. John seeks a pastor who embraces a congregation in a rural setting, enjoys traditional Lutheran worship with a little flair, and desires to serve the diversified needs of a growing congregation and community.

Applicants must be rostered and certified members of the LCMC Clergy, or minimally in their fourth year of seminary awaiting call and ordination into the LCMC. A Master of Divinity is required. Applicants should submit a traditional resume, letter of interest, and list of references to:
